Congratulations to students, staff, and Pine Tree parents.  Pine Tree was named a "Four Star School" by the Indiana Department of Education!
Mrs. Hunter,Counselor

Pine Tree Elementary counseling programs are designed to be an integral part of a child's education by offering prevention lessons, intervention services, and support for the instructional programs provided by the teachers.  As Pine Tree’s counselor, I offer individual counseling for students experiencing temporary or continuing school adjustment problems; group counseling for those kids experiencing a common need; classroom guidance addressing more universal concepts, and; large group programs addressing the connection to school and community.

To help address the many issues our students face, I offer opportunities for peer groups covering a wide range of topics from divorce to making friends and controlling anger.  If you are interested in group sessions for your child at school, please select the link for the appropriate group.  If you have questions about a group, please let me know.

Congratulations!

Green fundraiser: We will continue to accept old/used electronic devices such as old computer monitors, cell phones, laptops, etc. for donation on a regular basis. Items can be placed in appropriate container in the front office throughout the school year to be sent into a company who will not only safely recycle these older, outdated, or out-of-order devices, but will send money to Pine Tree in exchange!! Look for this bin in the Pine Tree office by the box tops / soup label collection bins.  For a list of more recyclable items, go to:        http://www.recyclingfundraiser.com/documents/pricelist.pdf

NOTE: ALL students are now using only silverware, no plasticware, in the cafeteria at this time.  We are helping to conserve on landfill space by reducing trash, and are continuing to do so by adding more recycling efforts over the next several weeks.  STAY TUNED :)

Conserve/recycle in lunch room: All students can do an even better job of reducing, reusing or recycling in the cafeteria. Here are some suggestions
........
·        Try NOT to use baggies in your lunch box. Instead, choose Tupperware containers for sandwiches or sides. These can be washed at home and REUSED for the next lunch. NO WASTE to throw in the trash. REMEMBER ALL TRASH GOES TO A LANDFILL…..lets try not to pollute our earth!!
·        Use a thermos for a drink in your lunch box. DID YOU KNOW THAT USED WATER BOTTLES FROM THE U.S. COULD WRAP AROUND OUR PLANET SEVERAL TIMES IF LINED UP? Too much waste, even if they ARE recycled bottles!
·        Use a lunch box instead of a throw away sack if possible. Recycle paper or plastic bag if you carry your lunch in a sack.
·        Since you must choose 4 menu items to complete a tray, if you are certain you will not eat that 3rd or 4th item, make a menu choice that involves NO packaging and wastes as little as possible, for example: a small scoop of peas.
·        Feel free to skip the straw!!  Do you realize how many straws fill up landfills, never to degrade?? Go ahead and sip your milk or juice directly from the carton.
·        Additional lunch room recycling ideas will be discussed at next week’s student council meeting, so MORE TO COME!
These are just some of the ideas the student council would like everyone to give a lot of thought to. We share this planet, and we should be sure to care for it!!
GREEN FACT:
Did you know?
On average, each one of us produces 4.4 pounds of solid waste (trash) each day. This adds up to almost a ton of trash per person, per year!!

Help reduce your carbon footprint and eliminate waste by properly recycling used cell phones/ electronics throughout the school year for our Recycling Fundraiser ---  sponsored by Pine Tree Student Council.

More tips for at home.....
  • do not allow water to stay running when brushing teeth
  • use cloth grocery bags for shopping
  • use vinegar, baking soda, or other natural products for cleaning
  • opt for tupperware and containers rather than baggies for packing meals
  • use low print quality/ less ink and print on both sides of paper to conserve materials with your home printers
  • use filters for tap water rather than buy bottles of water OR buy water coolers with large recyclable jugs
  • use programmable thermostats to help with conserving home energy

Sensory Friendly Movie Option
Please check the link below for more details, if you are interested in going to the movie theatre, but have children who do not enjoy loud sound effects or other sensory factors. There are now other options for you and your family!  AMC theatres are now offering a program with the mission of providing "a more accepting and comfortable setting for this unique audience, the movie auditoriums will have their lights brought up and the sound turned down, families will be able to bring in their own gluten-free, casein-free snacks, and no previews or advertisements will be shown before the movie. Additionally, audience members are welcome to get up and dance, walk, shout or sing - in other words, AMC’s “Silence is Golden®” policy will not be enforced unless the safety of the audience is questioned.”
